Perhaps the best thing about living on the North Shore are the “real communities” to be found scattered here and there, like Edgemont Village, Deep Cove, Ambleside and Lonsdale. Real neighbourhoods where local shops can be found owned and operated by local people for local folks and not giant mega-malls owned by corporations. Lonsdale is lucky to have Lower, Middle and Upper Lonsdale segments. Folks raising families may want to know about Active Baby, formerly Boomers and Echoes, on Lonsdale at 1985 Lonsdale.
Boomer and Echoes used to be a re-sale, consignment, new and used clothing store for parents on a budget. It proved to be very popular in the neighbourhood. Active Baby is larger and sells only new products. Yes, you can find baby clothing here, but you’ll also discover furniture and mattresses, nursing and bedding accessories, toys and books, a wide variety of strollers and bassinets, car seats, carriers and cribs, slings, mats, play pens, bike helmets and other products for children aged up to 4 years.
Aside from babies, there’s gear for active moms as well. Diaper bags, bottle warmers, seat organizers for the car, skiing and hiking kits. These days moms are far more active during kids younger years and Active Baby’s stock seems to reflect that. You can even buy kids sleeping bags and bring them on camping trips. Chances are if you can’t find what you want here, the product doesn’t exist.
Keep an eye out for specials when you enter. Often some products are marked down by as much as 20 to 30 percent. Their website claims they will match the price of any other store selling the same merchandise. You can even sign up for their newsletter to keep you appraised of new stock as your child grows older. Surf their products at https://www.activebaby.ca/ or call them at 604-986-8977. It’s always great to support local North Shore community stores. Lots of free street parking too.
